Obituary for Bruce W. Coburn
Comstock Township Bruce Wayne Coburn, age 66, died Friday morning August 1, 2014, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born on September 4, 1947 in Benton Harbor, MI a son of Frant M. and Elvira M. Cutler Coburn and moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1966. Bruce owned and operated "The TV Man" store for several years. He loved cars, especially funeral hearses, and owned several hearses through the years that he would drive in parades and take to car shows. Bruce was a member of several car clubs, including one called "Just Hearsing Around".Besides cars, Bruce enjoyed all kinds of music and working on computers. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a step-mother, Margaret Jarvis; a brother, Frant M. Coburn, Jr. and a sister, Elvira Kelley. On July 26, 1986, Bruce married the former Ruth A. Schallhorn, who survives. Also surviving are: a son, Gerald W. Coburn of Niles; a daughter, Cheryl E. Coburn of Benton Harbor; two step-daughters, Victoria Hook of Delton and Cynthia Barrus of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Ginger Barrus, Tara Leslie and Damon Coburn; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Barrus, Breanna Leslie and Jack Leslie; a step-mother Barbara Coburn of Coloma; a brother, Mark A. Coburn of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway on Wednesday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Services began with Pastor Jeff McNally of Word for Life Church, officiating. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Comstock followed.
